podcast

Hey Ashley-
I tried emailing you my podcast a few times and it kept sending it back to me because it said the file was too big.  Instead I emailed it to you using the email from elearning.  Let me know if it works! Hopefully it does!

Adding the finishing touches!

Hi group! I am getting close to close to finishing up all my requirements for the website! I just wanted to remind you that each page is is supposed to contain a new item/idea. The assignment in elearning describes it more. You can also see my ideas on my 2 pages. I think both of you are working on your original items for the site as well. I did a powerpoint on the "eating healthy" page if you want to check it out! We also need to include the 3 sites we evaluated plus an additional 3 sites in our final website.
For the podcast, you can email me your sections and I can put them together into a video and upload it to youtube. Then we can just embed the video to the site.
Finally, I see that no one has added anything to the "How to live a healthy lifestyle" page on our website. Is anyone planning to put information on it, or should it be deleted?

And Courtney- do you agree to use first grade for our targeted grade on the website? Once we decide on the grade, we can add the GLCEs to the standards page.

Website!

Hey Girls!
Ashley-Thank you so much for all of the directions!! They were really helpful! I worked a lot on the website tonight. I added a link for our blog and added the image of our final concept map. For myself, I added my digtial story and lesson plans. I still need to do an original lesson.

As a group, we still need to add our compiled podcast and the GLCEs that our website includes. Originally I thought that the GLCEs were what the lessons were, but really it needs to be what GLCEs the actual WEBSITE covers. ie: what the students would learn/accomplish by reviewing our website.

Let me know what you guys are thinking. I'll be working more on it tomorrow evening.
Thanks
Courtney

Working on the site

Hi group!
I was looking through some of the sample group websites, and I think that we should take an approach like these. Instead of having pages titled "lesson plans" and "blog," we can separate all our material into different sections that we used throughout the semester. We can have a page about "healthy foods" where we would post anything that we created under this subject (for example, my first lesson plan). So, let's brainstorm the different pages that we can use on the site.
Thanks!

Virtual pen pals/Google map assignment

This is for Kelsey.
I have accepted your request to view the google doc for the pen pals assignment. I had sent the original request to your wmich email account. Sorry about that mix up.
Here is the link to the Google map. Please let us know if it is still broken:

Once again, sorry about the trouble!

Module 6/7

Hi group!
I started looking at the next modules (6 and 7 are together). We need to revise the inspiration. Do you want to do this Courtney? You posted the original one at the beginning of the semester. I think that we will just have to add the ideas that we used for our different assignments that we did during the semester. We can discuss the details about it once we get started working on it.
Also, we need to do a group web site. We have to create a group google account (I can do that) and work together to complete it by attaching the work that we have done during this semester. Once I have opened the google account, I will let you know about how to edit the site.
Thanks!
Ashley

Podcast

Hi girls. I'm sorry this is so late, I just got home from out of town.
Here is my script:

Hello first grade families!
I am so excited to teach my first grade friends this unit. Promoting a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy and exercising is a subject area that I enjoy teaching and also continue to learn about. Through a variety of hands on activities, implementation of technology and participation in group exercises, my hope is that the students enjoy learning about a healthy lifestyle as much as I do.
A few of the activities that the students will be doing during this unit is preparing a power point presentation in groups presenting information on ways to get involved with exercise in the community such as girls on the run, relay for life and many other 5k and 10k runs in the local area.
Our class will also record a cooking video preparing their favorite healthy recipe. This will be posted for our families to view on youtube and also on our classroom blog. The students will be required to bring in a printed copy of the recipe and then a class cookbook will be formed for each of the students to use as a reference for healthy eating habits.
I would love to welcome any of you to come join us for a portion of this unit. From my past students, I have learned that this is one of their favorite units and I would invite you to come join in our fun.

podcast script

Hi Families!

Our first grade class is continuing their unit on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The next topic in this unit focuses on the advantages of exercising. With exercise we can feel good and take care of our body at the same time.

Another important aspect of living a healthy lifestyle is exercising. To start off the section on exercising, we as a class created an asset map. By creating this map, it gave me an idea of where we stood as a whole in terms of knowing how important fitness truly is. This asset map hangs in a common location within the classroom so that students can not only add important information to it along the way, but also because it shows the progress we have made from the first day. Oh how much we are learning!

I also presented the class with a short digital story on the importance of exercising. This story focused on a few different facts such as:

- Fitness helps you feel better and have more energy.

- Children and teens that are fit have more drive and focus better at school.

- When you stay active, you burn more calories, even when your body is at rest.

- Improving your fitness is good for your heart, lungs, bones, and joints.

The next lesson we are going to work on teaches the students the difference between an active heart rate, and a heart rate at rest. This will be hands on activity and the students will be able to see the difference between the two heart rates. An active heart is a healthy heart!

I will be keeping a classroom blog throughout these lessons on exercise, so students and parents can log on and view our progress as we learn more about staying healthy and active. Also, feel free to share ideas and ways you and your family stay active and fit on the blog.

Thanks for the support!

Podcast script

Here is the script that I created for my podcast:

Hello first grade parents and guardians!

Our class is beginning a unit on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. There will be three major sections to this unit: eating healthy, exercising and physical activity, and how to live a healthy lifestyle. This podcast is meant to simply describe the different aspects that we will cover with the class.

An important aspect of living a healthy lifestyle is eating healthy foods. To begin the section on eating healthy, we show a digital story that I created. The digital story mentions the benefits of eating healthy foods as opposed to eating unhealthy foods. Next, we will hold a videoconference with an expert nutritionist. He will list the characteristics of healthy foods and describe what foods are unhealthy. The nutritionist will also be able to describe to the class what a healthy diet consists of by explaining daily nutritional needs.

After holding the videoconference with the nutritionist, students will create a PowerPoint presentation of characteristics of healthy foods that they will present to the class when finished. Finally, a pretend grocery store will be set up for the students to do a role playing activity. The students will pretend that they are grocery shopping for their families. I will instruct that they need to buy groceries that they can use to make healthy meals for their families. At the end of the role-playing activity, we will discuss as a class what foods they bought and why. To summarize this section of the healthy lifestyle unit, we will create a classroom display of what we learned about healthy foods on the bulletin board outside our classroom.

Lesson Plan / Podcast

Hi Girls! We are getting close to the end, which is exciting! Hope you guys had a nice weekend.
Just wanted to touch base with you both, and let you know what I was thinking about doing for my lesson plan/podcast.
I think I am going to do a lesson that deals with the benefits of exercise and fitness, combined with a healthy heart rate? I'm still brainstorming- but I think since we have to incorporated an excel chart/graph, I thought I could show the student the difference between a heart rate at rest and heart rate after physical activity. We as a class would do the activity together.
As for the podcast, I wasn't sure if we were just going to discuss the three different issues we kind of talked about in our videos/lesson 1. I'm open to any ideas:) We just have to keep in mind the order we want Kelsey to open it in.
Talk to you later this week:)

Turning in the googledoc and googlemap

Hi Girls-
I have looked over the googledoc once again and I think that it looks great. If you guys are satisfied, I think that we are all set and ready to post. Let me know what you guys are thinking.

Movie Marker!

Hi Group!
I first off want to apologize for not commenting right away, that was not my intention but unfortunately the result of a power outage.Thankfully, its back on now, and I have a lot of work ahead of me:) The pen pal document looked pretty good the last time I viewed it, but I am going to check it out again in a minute, to see if any other changes were made and /or add some other information to it. Both of your movie ideas sounded great! I am going to create a movie that focuses on the importance of physical activity in your life.
Also Courtney, let me know if you need some help with the map, I know you said you were going to try to start that today, so just let me know.

Module 4

Ashely, your idea sounds good to me for the movie maker assignment. I was thinking of doing the benefits of eating and growing organically. Is that ok with you guys? As far as the googledocs goes, I got your email but the web address wasn't hyperlinked and when I tried to copy and paste it kept redirecting me. Anyway you can send it again? Hopefully it will work this time. I will create the googlemap today and send you all the link.

Continuing module 4

Hi,
I put a few ideas into the google doc for our virtual pen pals assignment. I suggest that each of you look at the document and edit it with any changes or additions you feel necessary.
Also, someone else needs to start the map on google maps. I cannot start this since I created the document. I would like to get this assignment done before the weekend, so it'd be great if we can work together to finish this in the next couple of days.
Thanks,
Ashley

Movie Maker project

Hi group!
I am thinking of doing my concept for the movie maker assignment on the benefits of eating healthy. Is that alright with you?
Thanks,
Ashley
